چکیده

The EPA and state governmental agencies are in vestigating means of controlling the emissions of toxic metals from waste incinerators. In order to aid in the development of effective regulations and control stra tegies, an analytical procedure to estimate the emission of metals from combustion devices is being developed. The procedure includes analysis of key phenomena such as particle entrainment, metal vaporization, vapor condensation, particle coagulation and particle re moval by flue gas cleaning equipment. This paper de scribes the components of the procedure, discusses its application to identify key parameters, and compares model predictions with experimental data.

Long term plant biomonitoring in the vicinity of waste incinerators in The Netherlands.

Since the mid-nineties new waste incineration plants have come into operation in the Netherlands. Burning of waste can result in the emission of potentially toxic compounds. Although the incineration plants must comply with strict conditions concerning emission control, public concern on the possible impact on human health and the environment still exists. Multiple year (2004-2013) biomonitorin...

The health effects of waste incinerators

In the UK, incinerators are still seen as a satisfactory answer to the problem of getting rid of the increasing quantities of waste, including increasing amounts of synthetics. This report examines the scientific evidence from all sources concerning the health implications of waste incineration, and its costs, explicit and hidden. The report reviews what is known about the range of pollutants r...

Evaluation of the public health risks associated with semivolatile metal and dioxin emissions from hazardous waste incinerators.

The public health impacts associated with stack emissions from hazardous waste incinerators have become a major concern in recent years. Most evaluations of incinerator stack emissions have focused on three classes of compounds: metals, semivolatile, and volatile compounds. These investigations have been complicated by the difficulty and expense of analyzing the emissions and the limited amount...
